L. showed higher number of leaves and fruits when compared with the plant grown
in inorganic fertilizer. However, differences are not statistically significant and it is
shown in Table 5.2. The highest total length of Raphanus sativus L. is 13 cm in DSV
and DSC. The lowest length of DSV and DSC is 10.1 cm in CF. Plants grown with
DSV produced maximum number of leaves (21), and the minimum leaves is 8 in
C. Also, the highest leaf length (15 cm) was found in DSV, and the lowest leaf length
was noticed in CF (10.75 cm). Similar results were already reported (Lingaiah et al.
1992). Consequently, poultry manure at 1.25 t/ha (50%) + vermicompost at 1.75 t/ha
(50%) treated plant has resulted in greater number of leaves. The authors have stated
that the increased number of leaves may be due to the macro- and micronutrient
availability in the vermicompost (Giraddi 1993). Thanunathan et al.’s (1997) studies
state that the application of vermicompost appears to be a very effective amendment
in case of onion too. The descending number of leaves and leaf area in
Bhumyamalaki (Phyllanthus amarus Schum) with the application of poultry
manures along with biofertilizers was reported earlier (Chezhiyan et al. 2003).
5.4 Yield Parameters
In this investigation, the root length of organically and inorganically grown
Raphanus sativus L. was shown in Table 5.2. From the results maximum fresh
weight of the whole plant and root was observed to be 182.33 and 87.39 g in
DSV-grown plants, and minimum fresh weight noticed was 153.32 and 43.13 g
in C, respectively. Treated DSV plant produced maximum dry weight of the root and
