Results from pure cultures of hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria are equivocal with
respect to the influence of pressure on growth and hydrocarbon degradation potential. Elevated partial pressure of methane and oxygen, but not total pressure, is
inhibitory to Methylococcus capsulatus (Bath), isolated from sediment and water,
and Methylomicrobium album BG8, isolated from freshwater (Soni et al. 1998).
