Résumé
Holothuria tubulosa (Gmelin, 1788) a récemment montré une demande accrue sur les marchés
asiatiques, devenant l’une des espèces d’holothuries intensivement exploitées en mer
méditerranée. Un risque est que la surexploitation affecte probablement à la fois les stocks naturels
de l’espèce et les communautés benthiques. Dans ce scénario, l’élevage en mer et le
repeuplement par l’aquaculture pourraient aider à atténuer sa surexploitation. Cette étude est la
première à démontrer le succès de l’élevage de H. tubulosa, et son potentiel conséquent et tant que
nouvelle espèce pour l’industrie aquacole méditerranéenne. L’expérience initiale d’induction de la
ponte montre qu’il est possible de provoquer la ponte par simple stress thermique.
Abstract
Holothuria tubulosa (Gmelin, 1788) has recently shown increased demand in Asian markets,
becoming one of the intensively exploited sea cuncomber species in the Mediterranean Sea. One
risk is that overexploitation is likely to affect both the species natural stocks and benthic
communities. In this scenario, sea farming and restocking through aquaculture could help alleviate
its overexploitation. This study is the first to demonstrate the success of artificial rearing and
culture of H.tubulosa and its consequent potential as a new species for the Mediterranean
aquaculture industry. The initial spawning induction experiment shows that it is possible to induce
spawning by simple heat stress.
