3.4 Evaluation on Utilisability of Compost Products

3.4.1.4 Evaluation of Utilisability of Compost Products
The conductivity of compost in the inoculated group was 2.26 ms/cm, satisfying the
standard, and the compost contained 55% of organic matters, larger than the specified
content (not lower than 45%) of organic matters in organic fertilizer (standard NY
525-2012). Moreover, the content of HULIS-C was up to 12%, which was remarkably
higher than the requirement (not lower than 3.0%) on the content of humic acid in
water-soluble fertilizers containing humic acid (standard NY1106-2010). Moreover,
the GI was 114.6%, which was significantly larger than the value (80%) recommended by scholars. Overall, the compost products inoculated with acidificationresistant complex microbial inoculants show a high utilisability of plants, with a
promising application prospect (Fig. 3.16).
3.4.2 Evaluation on Utilizability of Compost of Mixed
Materials
3.4.2.1 GI
Under different treatments, GI constantly rose during the composting and reached 80–
85% after the composting was ended, based on which the compost can be considered
to be mature (Fig. 3.17). With the conduction of composting, the materials inhibiting
plant growth gradually reduced, which was the reason why GI constantly increased.
Under different treatments, the values of GIs showed a great difference at the same
period of composting and the values of GIs under different treatments were greatly
different at the early stage of composting. Different contents of materials (including
volatile fatty acids and phenolic acids) capable of triggering phytotoxicity were
produced under various material ratios, leading to a great difference in the values of
GIs. After the composting was ended, the treatments were displayed in a descending
order as T2, T3, T1 and T4 in terms of the values of GI.
3.4.2.2 Fecal Coliforms
The value of fecal coliforms in compost was detected in order to directly judge the
harmless level of the compost. According to non-hazardous standard of faeces (GB
7959-87), the value of fecal coliforms of the compost being subjected to harmless
treatment should reach the sanitary standard in the range of 10
–1 –10
–2 . It can be seen
from Table 3.11 that the values of fecal coliforms under T2 and T3 were 10
–1 and
10
–2 , reaching the harmless level, while those under T1 and T4 were both 1, failing
to satisfy the standard.
