1.2.1.3 Wastewater origin
The origin of wastewater refers to the specific source from which it is generated. Depending on
the origin of the polluting substances, wastewater can be classified into four categories:
1.2.1.3.1. Domestic wastewater
This comes from the various domestic uses of water. It essentially comprises
toilet wastewater and household wastewater from bathrooms and kitchens. This wastewater
contains organic waste, household chemicals and pathogens such as bacteria, viruses and
parasites (El Hachemi, 2012).
1.2.1.3.2. Industrial wastewater
Industrial wastewater is the water generated by various industrial plants. Its
composition is directly related to the type of industry considered.
Independently of the load of mineral or organic pollution, its putrescible or non-putrescible
nature, it may also have its own toxicity characteristics linked to the chemicals transported
(Rodier et al., 2005).
