1.1.8. Biomass harvesting
Harvesting is a crucial step in separating microalgae from the culture medium. The
adoption of a harvesting technique would mainly depend on the nature of the microalgae itself
(Density and size), the application of the produced biomass and the energy requirements per
unit of production (Abu Hasan et al., 2017).
The methods used to harvest microalgae biomass, their principles as well as their advantages
and disadvantages are summarized in Table 4.
