The thesis describes the different treatment processes used at the Beni Messous station,
such as pre-treatment, settling, aeration, filtration and disinfection. Each step of the
process is explained in detail, highlighting its role in removing contaminants and
improving the quality of treated water.
It also presents the results of an in-depth study carried out at the Beni Messous station
to assess the effectiveness of the treatments. The monthly evolution of the analyzed
parameters, such as biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand
(COD) and suspended solids is measured before and after each stage of the treatment.
Coefficients, such as the biodegradation coefficient, are calculated to estimate the
degradability of water pollution. The data obtained is analyzed and discussed to assess
the overall effectiveness of the treatment system.
The results of the study indicate that the Beni Messous station manages to effectively
remove a large part of the organic load and suspended solids present in urban
wastewater.
In conclusion, the thesis highlights the importance of the Beni Messous wastewater
treatment plant in the treatment of urban effluents and underlines the general efficiency
of the treatment processes used. However, it also highlights the need for continuous
monitoring and possible improvements to meet water quality standards and ensure
adequate environmental protection.
