the Western Disturbance (WD) from Mediterranean Region in the winter (Shukla
and Chaturvedi 2012). The Hamtah pass, a gateway to Kullu valley also occur on its
watershed leading to relatively higher precipitation during July–August period as
compared to the other parts of the Chandra catchment. The glacier snout, located at
~4000 m asl, has a steep ice wall in the central portion. The melt water stream is
released, through a prominent ice cave, in the central portion of the snout (Fig. 2).
There are several subsidiary melt water channels in the right and left portion of the
snout. However, their contribution is negligible considering the total discharge of
the glacier.
