5.4 Numerical Simulations Based on 3D Mesoscopic Concrete Model
149
the numerical simulations of projectile penetration test in Sect. 5.3 (Wu et al. 2015b)
are performed numerically by LS-DYNA.
5.4.2.1 Finite Element Model
The targets size of CA-UHPC are mainly 750 mm × 500 mm and 750 mm
× 600 mm. Considering the actual damage of targets in the tests and calculation
efficiency, the size of CA-UHPC target in the numerical simulation is determined as
400 mm × 400 mm. In order to reduce the calculation cost, the element size is 2 mm
for the central impacted zone (200 mm × 200 mm) and 5 mm for the surrounding
region, respectively. The coarse aggregates are only dropped in the central impacted
zone, while volume fraction and size of coarse aggregates remain constant with test.
The projectile used in the numerical simulation is identical with the test. It should be
noted that, in order to improve the calculation efficiency and avoid the calculation
errors, the solid projectile is adopted in the numerical simulation, which is different
from the projectile filled by polymer inert materials in the test, and the element size
of projectile is 3 mm. Figure 5.40 shows the half of finite element model for the test
with coarse aggregate size is 35–45 mm and coarse aggregates volumetric fraction
is 30%.
