and the Tu-144 developed by former Soviet Union Tupolev design bureau are
the few commercial supersonic passenger aircraft in the world that have been
put into commercial use, first flight in 1969), the cruise speed is 2150 km/h,
and the maximum cruise Mach number is 2.04. Although the speed of the
propeller engine is the lowest, it has the highest propulsive efficiency in the
three types of engines, which can reach 88–89%. Therefore, humans first
took off the aircraft and realized the dream of flying by propeller engine. But
with the depletion of oil, if there is no alternative energy source, it may be
possible to return to the propeller engine era because it is the most fuel efficient. If other energy sources can replace it, such as replacing the fuel engine
with a nuclear battery, the nuclear battery supplies energy to the electromotor
and the electromotor drives the propeller. Due to the difficulty of aero-engine
technology, there are only a few companies in the world that can produce
it, such as Pratt & Whitney Group in the U. S. and Rolls-Royce in the U.
K. These are the most famous aero-engine manufacturing companies in the
world.
China’s large airliner C919 uses the LEAP-X1C engine (This engine is
similar to CFM56 series which is assembled on the production line in China
jointly established by Aviation Industry Corporation of China and CFM
International Company. Its thrust is 10 tones.). The CFM56 series engines
are supplied by the CFM International Company which is a joint venture
company between General Electric of the U. S. and SNECMA of France.
The GE90-115B installed on the Boeing 777-300ER is the most powerful
civil engine with a single engine thrust of more than 56 tons. If the PW4090
engine of P&W (Pratt & Whitney Group) Company is selected, then the
thrust is about 40 tons. If the Boeing 777-200 series aircraft uses the Trent
800 series engine produced by the Rolls-Royce Company of the U. K., then
the thrust is 41 tons.
The aviation industry has experienced a leap from the “propeller area” to
the “jet era”. The birth of jet engines has brought a revolution to the world
aviation industry. The life of the jet engine founder Sir Frank Whittle (1907–
1996, as shown in Fig. 7.86) is full of hardships and legends.
Various types of engines and installations are given in Figs. 7.87, 7.88,
7.89, 7.90, 7.91, 7.92, 7.93, 7.94, 7.95, 7.96, 7.97.
