Fig. 14.13 Mean profiles of parameters in site 9: a temperature, b relative humidity
while the highest peak is recorded at 16:00 (min and max have an exact 1 h delay
from the equivalent moments in the air temperature). The mean water temperature
in the studied time interval was 6.47 °C and the mean air temperature was 4.57 °C.
The recorded mean air relative humidity was 87.7%.
All sites in Fig. 14.14 have air temperature maxima at 14:30, excepting the site
on Sucevit , a River, where the eastward exposition of the sensor moved the maximum
towards the morning (10:30) and the site on Solonet , River, where the westward
exposition of the river bank moved the maximum at 15:30. The air temperature
minima generally occur at 5:00. The water temperature maxima occurred at the
same time with the virtual moment when the air temperature maxima occur in this
part of Romania (14:30), except Solonet , and Pozen rivers (15:30), Solonet , River
(14:00) and Humor River (15:00). Water temperature minima range from 5:00 to
6:00.
Mean water temperature for Humor, Pozen, Solca, Blândet , u, Solonet , , and Sucevit , a
were: 16.39, 15.39, 18.53, 17.96, 19.1 and 16.21 °C. The equivalent air temperatures
in the same places were: 16.33, 19.51, 16.8, 16, 18.37 and 15.08 °C.
It is to be noted the water thermal amplitude that is greater than the air thermal
amplitude in some sites because of the direct solar irradiation of stream water and
pebbled streambed during multiple consecutive hours.
The evolutions shown in Fig. 14.15 are similar to those in Fig. 14.14. The water
temperature maximum and minimum are more constant across sites than their equivalents in air temperature, indicating that streamwater is less susceptible than surrounding air to local influences. The water temperature minimum occurs at 7:30 in
sites no. 15, 18 and 19. At the same sites, the air temperature minima occur at distinct
hours: 4:30, 7:00 and 6:30 respectively. The water temperature maximum occurs at
17:00, while the air temperature maxima range from 12:30 to 13:30. The terrain
morphology and aspect of these sites influences the air temperature and the diurnal
profiles record two peaks: the chronologically first peak is caused by direct solar irradiation of local surfaces, while the second peak is generated by the air temperature
of the greater surrounding area.
