11 Monitoring and Management of Water in the Siret River …

Fig. 11.9 The synoptic scheme of the Hydrographic Basin Putna
hydrological stations within each Basin Administration. The automatic stations are
the following:
• Hydrometric stations: transmit daily information on water level, water and air
temperature, precipitation and water quality. They are decommissioned during
winter because they can not operate at negative temperatures;
• Rain gauges: register only the amount of rainfall throughout the year, even in
winter, because they have a heater (which melts the snow);
• Quality stations: these only have sensors that transmit the water quality;
• Accumulations: they are installed in accumulations or polders;
• Snow-gauges: for the daily transmission of the nivometric parameters (layer, density, water equivalent) during the winter period (Fig. 11.10).
In the Siret River Basin, there are 119 automatic stations. Within each hydrological
station, there is at least one automatic station (Fig. 11.11). Most stations are located
within Suceava Water Management System: 29 at Suceava hydrological station (19
hydrometric stations and 10 rain gauges stations) and at Vatra Dornei hydrological
station there are 16 stations (5 hydrometric stations, 10 rain gauges stations and
a quality station). At Stulpicani hydrological station there is only one rain gauge
station.
The Neamt Water Management System (the Hydrological Station of Piatra Neamt
specifically) operates 25 automatic stations, out of which 21 automatic hydrometric
stations and 4 automatic rain gauge stations.
