The maximum flows recorded on the Siret river and its tributaries were: 865 m
3 /s
on Siret at ¸
Serbane¸ sti Hu¸ tani, 1140 m
3 /s at Lespezi and 1.920 m
3 /s in Drage¸ sti,
in July 1969. Exceptional flow of 1700 m
3 /s was recorded on the Trotu¸ s river at
Radeana—Vrânceni in May 1975, of 3270 m
3 /s on the Siret river at Cosme¸ sti in
May 1991 and 1550 m
3 /s on the Tazlau river at Helegiu, in July 1991.
In 2005, in the Siret and Trotus , hydrographic basins, floods had occurred due to
exceptional floods. The flood produced in the summer of 2005 measured the maximum flow at the Vrânceni hydrometric station on the Trotu¸ s river (2800 m
3 /s—the
probability of 0.5%). On the inferior sector of Siret river, at the Lungoci hydrometric
station, the peak of the flood had an estimated flow rate of 4500 m
3 /s, respectively a
probability of exceedance of 0.5%, Siret becoming the inner river with the highest
flow recorded on the territory of Romania.
In 2005, the largest floods ever recorded occurred on the Putna and Râmnicu-S˘ arat
rivers. On the Putna river, at Bo¸ t˘ arl˘ au station, the peak flow value was 1.323 m
3 /s,
being considered the first of the chronological series of maximum flows with the
probability of exceeding 2.5%.
The main historical floods produced in Prut-Bârlad, are those recorded in 1965,
1969, 1985, 1988, 1991, 1998, 2005, 2008 and 2010. As a result of the maximum
precipitations, there were floods that led to increases in debts on the main rivers Prut,
Jijia, Bahlui and Bârlad, as well as their tributaries. The maximum flows recorded
in different sections on these water courses, mentioned above during floods, are as
follows: the year 1965-2240 m
3 /s on the Prut river in R˘ ad˘ au¸ ti—Prut and approx.
200 m
3 /s on Bârlad at Negre¸ sti, Vaslui and Bârlad, year 1969-731 m
3 /s on the Prut
river at R˘ ad˘ au¸ ti—Prut, 394 m
3 /s on Jijia at Todireni, approx. 300 m
3 /s on Bârlad at
Negre¸ sti and Vaslui, and 380 m
3 /s at Tecuci. In 1985 there were recorded 1250 m
3 /s
on the Prut river in R˘ ad˘ au¸ ti—Prut, 212 m
3 /s on the Jijia river at Todireni, approx.
390 m
3 /s on Bârlad in Negre¸ sti and 250 m
3 /s in Vaslui. In 1988, the maximum flows
were 1780 m
3 /s on Prut to R˘ ad˘ au¸ ti—Prut and 104 m
3 /s on Jijia to Victoria. The
flood produced on the Prut River in June–July 2010 reached a maximum flow rate
of 2137 m
3 /s in R˘ ad˘ au¸ ti—Prut, which was propagated downstream.
By performing a comparative analysis, at the level of the territorial administrative
unit, in terms of deforested areas and respectively the number of years in which
floods occurred, there is a direct relationship between them (Figs. 9.15 and 9.16).
The Neamt , and Suceava counties are the most affected during the last 15–20 years
of deforestation and implicitly floods. Neamt , County records a very high frequency of
floods, localities being often affected by rapid floods. Localities as Agapia, Alexandru
cel Bun, Damuc and Piatra Neamt , , are very often flooded. The locality from the
country, which recorded the highest frequency during this time frame is Tarc˘ au,
from Neam¸ t county.
A second county affected, as surface and frequency, is Suceava, where localities
such as Cornu Luncii, F˘ alticeni, Liteni and Ulma record the most frequent floods.
The region is complemented by Ia¸ si County, where there are also frequently flooded
localities, such as Tibana. Another county that is highlighted by an unusually high
frequency is Alba County, where Zlatna locality is affected in the analyzed period in
10 of the 17 years by floods.
