4.4.2.2 Physico-Chemical Indicators
In Table 4.6 one may observe that the water temperature in the three sections of the
Mure¸ s water body recorded average values between 10.58 °C (2015) and 17.25 °C
(2016) in the Iernut section. Higher temperatures were registered in this section
compared to the other two sections over the three years of the study. The pH values
allow water to be labeled as neutral, slightly alkaline, which does not raise drinking
water problems.
The minimal, average and maximal values of the Oxygen Group Indicators presented in Fig. 4.3 (Dissolved Oxygen—Concentration), Fig. 4.4 (Dissolved Oxygen—Saturation), Fig. 4.5 (CBO5), Fig. 4.6 (CCO–Cr), suggest good environmental
status/potential for the three sections of the Mures , water body—the Petrilaca confluence—the Aries confluence. Thus, the oxygenation conditions in 2015 were appreciated as having good ecological status and in the next two years these conditions led
to the assessment of the ecological status as moderate, due to the CCO–Cr values.
The values of nutrients in the water are presented in Table 4.7. Following the
monitoring activities and the calculated determinations, it was appreciated that the
ecological status/potential is good for the entire body of water which was assessed.
The state of nitrites and nitrates was appreciated as moderate and good.
The specific monitored pollutants and the minimal, average and maximal values
are found in Table 4.8.
In 2015, the metals were not monitored for the Ungheni/Mure¸ s section. However,
assessments were made, according to the norms in force (and which have been
established according to the regulations of the Water Framework Directive) [54].
The quality potential expressed according to the specific pollutants for the year
2015 received the rating “good”, and in the following years, the potential was maximum (Table 4.9).
4.4.2.3 Biologic Indicators
The presence of phytoplankton and macro invertebrates is influenced by aeration
conditions, by the presence of nutrients, of specific pollutants in the aquatic environment, as well as by the thermal conditions that occur in the area during the year
[55].
Average phytoplankton values vary from one year to another; in 2016 there was
a decrease in the average value, after which in the following year the value was
differentiated by a slight increase compared to the previous years. The presence of
macro-vertebrates is more pronounced in 2016 than in 2015, a situation that gives it
a maximum status/potential.
We consider it necessary to mention that the investigative environments are water,
sediment and biota. The quality elements, the parameters, and minimum monitoring
frequencies are in line with the requirements of the Water Framework Directive,
depending on the type of program. Monitoring of the water status in Romania based
on the monitoring programs established in accordance with Art. 8 (1), (2) of the
