3.3.2 Groundwater Bodies
As far as the categories of groundwater bodies in Romania were concerned, identified,
delineated and characterized 143 bodies of groundwater, compared to 142 existing in
the first RBMP, 17 of which have a cross-border character. With regard to groundwater
body categories, out of the total of 143 water bodies, 115 are phreatic groundwater
bodies (horizon 1), the remaining 28 are groundwater bodies of depth (horizons 2,
3, 4).
The pressure type analysis was performed for each groundwater body, taking into
account only significant pressures that exert an impact on the chemical and quantitative status of the groundwater body. At the national level, diffuse and point pressures
caused by human agglomerations, agricultural sources, as well as those from the
agricultural sources, have been considered as significant sources of pollution, which
may have an impact on the chemical status of groundwater bodies from the industry.
Characterization of groundwater status, i.e. quantitative status and chemical status,
is based on a classification system consisting of 2 classes: good and other than good
(poor).
