Inclusion of the Sustainability Pillars into the SDGs and Their
Interconnection
Since international development agencies, international financial institutions, or
specialized agencies—such as the OECD—and the UN system launched global initiatives to foster SDGs, they face the dilemma of how to ensure the coherence of
development and development policies within the 2030 agenda.
The issue of political cohesion for development is a persistent problem that
affects the governance of development and the environment as well as its performance (OECD 2019). The answer to this dilemma goes through different actions
that international organizations try to carry out together with the creation of institutional mechanisms, accompanied by a battery of political declarations, local commitments, and systems of monitoring, analysis, and reporting of results. All this
