21.1 Introduction
Cyclodextrins are a family of cyclic oligosaccharides containing 6-8 D-glucose
units linked by α-1,4-glucose bonds, referred to as α-, β-, and γ-cyclodextrin,
respectively. As generated from the enzymatic degradation, cyclodextrins are
water-soluble, nontoxic, and commercially available at a low cost. More importantly, as the second generation of supramolecular macrocycles, cyclodextrins
could bind various neutral or negatively charged shape-compatible guest molecules by the hydrophobic cavity. This fascinating property made cyclodextrin a
good candidate in molecular recognition, sensing, drug carriers, biomimetic catalysts, and so on [1–3].
