The reactions of D
H 4 , PMHS and PDMS-co-PMHS of regular and random structure with ethanol, catalyzed by Pd/C, give alkoxysiloxane derivatives, which upon
catalytic hydrolytic polycondensation provide polysilsesquioxane materials
(Handke et  al.  2008, 2009). Alternatively, Si-H bonds in PDMS-co-PMHS have
been  hydrolyzed in the presence of Pd/C into intermediate polysiloxanes with
pendant silanol groups (Si-OH), which are then substituted with functional vinyldimethylsiloxy groups or unreactive trimethylsiloxy groups (Ochs 2009).
