Abstract The pollution caused by industrial waste has become a major problem for
most of the countries. The present paper deals with the effect of activated carbon and
fly ash on removal of acid magenta dye from aqueous solution under different
experimental conditions such as exposure time, pH, temperature, and different
amount of adsorbent. Maximum 85% and 91% acid magenta dye (20 ppm) removal
was observed at low pH (pH 2) with activated carbon and fly ash treated dye
solution, respectively. The phytotoxicity study exhibited that Vigna radiata seeds
showed better response in the fly ash treated dye solution in comparison with the
