John Sabo is an ecologist who studies the importance of water in determining the
viability and resilience of animal and plant populations in river and riparian ecosystems. He also has projects that examine the effects of dams on energy flow through
aquatic food webs. He is a Professor and Senior Sustainability Scientist at Arizona
State University’s Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability (Chap. 10).
Peter Saundry is an Adjunct Professor of Energy at the Johns Hopkins University
and a Senior Fellow at the National Council for Science and the Environment. His
scholarship focuses on how to effectively integrate energy and climate science into
decision-making and public policy. He has a Ph.D. in physics from the University of
Southern California. Twitter: @psaundry (Editor; Chaps. 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 11, 12,
17, and 21)
Shashi Shekhar a McKnight Distinguished University Professor at the University
of Minnesota, is a leading scholar of spatial computing and Geographic Information
Systems (GIS). His contributions include algorithms for evacuation route planning
and mining spatial patterns (e.g., colocation, linear hotspots), an Encyclopedia of
GIS, and a Spatial Databases textbook (Chaps. 12, 16, and 17).
Nicole Sintov is an environmental psychologist. She currently serves as Assistant
Professor of Behavior, Decision-Making, and Sustainability in OSU’s School of
Environment and Natural Resources. Her work aims to advance psychological theory while producing insights that can be applied to benefit the environment and
society (Chap. 4).
Lara Treemore-Spears is Program Coordinator for Healthy Urban Waters
Initiative at Wayne State University where she manages interdisciplinary research
projects that combine physical science and engineering with human behavior and
health relating to the natural and built environment, water resources and infrastructure, and the transport and fate of pollutants (Chaps. 9, 18, and 21).
Robyn S. Wilson is a Professor in the School of Environment and Natural
Resources at the Ohio State University. She is a behavioral decision scientist,
focused on decisions under risk. She is also interested in the development of messaging and decision support tools that support more informed choices (Chap. 4).
Yingqian Yang is conducting research on food-water-energy Nexus. She has a
Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University. This material is
based upon work partially supported by the National Science Foundation under
Grant Addressing Decision Support for Water Stressed FEW Nexus Decisions
Numbered 1739977 (Chap. 5).
Wei Zhang is a senior research fellow at the International Food Policy Research
Institute in the Environment and Production Technology Division. She leads the
research program on ecosystem services under the Natural Resource Management
