Chapter 83
Comes Crashing Down Upon It
83.1 Knowing, or, Unknowing?
That moment of ecological love. When all that is hate, and driven away, and broken
by laws and theories and coming hypotheses, emerges altogether new, in its reunited reality.
Such eco-dynamic foment is a trembling re-birth. Knowing might well mark an
empirical fact inherent to this paradoxical novelty, even as its source and wonderment may perpetually come crashing down upon it the mysteries of experience; the
value of said perceptions, memories, and impulses, some other utterly unpredicted
vagary of biology, rooted in—not knowing—something else. So that knowing and
unknowing are in conflict, or tandem confluence, at the same moment, in the same
personage.
There are any number of nuances surrounding it; summons harkening far back in
time, and to tomorrow. Giambattista Vico’s 1725 Scienza Nuova implemented the
mental construct of a human entity, expressly the agency, the ideal, the very basis
for any so-called accomplishment. What Vico imagined to be the “Age of Men.” A
similar vein of blushing enthusiasm pervaded the so-called Enlightenment in Europe.
But it is that Age, humanity’s prom-night, that is real enough to the extent of the
Anthropocene. And notwithstanding the persuasiveness of Self, not one proof of
human existence can be verified. It only matters to the extent that the dream calls out
the fallacy of the dream. Contradictions withstand every contrary tendency throughout the fabric of mentation because our logic base is a fiction, even while our morbidity and co-morbidities are clear to the sufferer. A universal conjecture that has
framed every narrative of the humanities and sciences in self-portraits of excited
angst and moribund attention deficit. The enthusiastic disorders defining our Age—
every shred of a house, a fork and knife, cotton, tires and toothpaste, parapets and
pledges of allegiance, antibiotics and automobiles, smart devices and dollar bills,
Wall Street, weapons, airplanes and engines, democracies and dictatorships—all
together now these influences have come crashing down. Have tethered hopes and
dreams that take from every square inch. Does not give.
