But that nation’s transition from innocence to the human ecological outbreak is
emblematic, certainly for the life of species other than human, of a crisis of conscience, as described in Chap. 51.

We simply lie to ourselves, we lie to worms; and these untruths have become
central to the operational rationale behind every human civilization. The dishonesty
functions as a trigger for the continued propagation of the attempted re-writing of
biological rules, in the same manner that a gentrified Great Britain once formulated
maps of the world with its own boundaries central to the global picture, no check
upon its conquests, or abrogative referenda that might nullify the legality of its consumptive patterns outside its immediate borders.
80.4 Moral Auditing
Lacking moral audits from country to country, fully subscribing to the corrupt and
abusive powers that have institutionalized every human hierarchy, and because we
are arguably the youngest of all heavy vertebrates, the conundrum of obscurity
devolves: Why does a God, the idea of God, or any ideal whatsoever, allow for us,
given the framework of eco-dynamic constraints upon the interaction of species in
general, and within specific populations? Sound, logical rivets holding the biosphere together, which our species has incessantly breached?
Forgetting the mythology of a God, why would natural selection favor such unrelenting violence given that, by its inherent logic, beyond some threshold of violence, all die out? Even when considering the phylogenic gulfs between, say, ants
and elephants, microbes and Sequoias, rampant cruelty, egotism never before so
visited in such magnitudes of deliberate catastrophe singling out whole species, one

nations) Aotearoa’s South Island farming communities have gone a long way towards polluting
their inland waterways in the same manner as that of the Netherlands, with cows and sheep. But
in addition, despite a country-wide population under 5 million, and a currently strong pro-active
environmental framework for most issues, the overall orientation hinges upon the subjugation and
killing of vertebrates; the denomination of most non-natives (other than humans) as predators,
vermin, and a subsequent war by nearly any and all means against them. Slaughtering possums,
rodents, feral cats and mustelid-family species by the hundreds-of-thousands, and the extirpation
of “weeds” like gorse (Ulex europaeus), is virtually ingrained within the New Zealand farming and
conservation communities. Profiting on a false clean-green mantra, New Zealand, like so many
human-dominated landscapes remains thoroughly illogical, ill-fitted, ungainly and a tragedy for
the majority of (Other-than-human) mammalian residents, the victims of a vast, viciously disingenuous underbelly of the human false survival argument: cannibalism.
