viable DNA, or embracing the re-wilding paradigm, conservation practicalities are
dependent upon the mood swings of geopolitics and economics, strictly human
pufferies serving the fickle will of a distribution of superegos, that aforementioned
“variance” factor that oscillates between the atom and the aggregates before, during,
and after biology.
To be charged and impacted by this furnace of challenges and incongruities of
thinking, so desperate and deserted in the very act of cognition, should be viewed as
no abnormality, but evidence for the embrace of an unexpectable condition of multiple realities in one. Its foremost characterization may nicely be compared with the
puzzle of art history, the International Postal Union, or the electrical grid of
Maharashtra State, from among 10 to 1000 other examples. And while a centurieslong drought or the inability to speak a dialect of Tarantula might be annoying in the
moment, this more paramount issue of one’s personal circumstances of mind condemning reason to unknown, alternative possibilities is especially alarming in light
of the rigorous training our gene pools have endured for so many millions of years.
Creatures wedded to their little comforts signal the least likelihood of their ever
speaking with strangers. Fear listens only to oneself. Its schedules are the chorus of
impulses reined in by the tyranny of being somehow part of that Self, of a Species
quite comfortable with the cacophonous chanting of doom and gloom within its
own communities and language groups. Outside such habitual comforts, their terror
is unspeakable, unknowable, the fears prohibiting all contact beyond immediate,
personal borders.
Such glaring issues, grievances—membership in a biographical trap that has
been aggressively translocated from the physical commons into thought—might
require the remainder of one’s present existence to work through, up to the very
instant of extinction. Alternatively, avenues of inexhaustible kindnesses, altruisms,
generosities, all manner of tenderness afford far less unpleasant options, to be sure.
Of that, no matter how dark the aisles leading up to it, we are certain.
Of course, it does matter, in the chain of beings, whether one expresses an idea
in one form or some other version of it. The Selves are too myriad to suffer the
ecological diagnoses that must follow from this sophistry, the biological histories
that ultimately consolidate into an instant of Being, into one’s own reality. No one
has the patience to endure 300 million years of geology, unless that person was a
Trilobite. For them, diagnostics were relevant. But for a species just over
300,000 years old? What can be said about it?
This family of Hominidae, to which we yet belong, is hardly comparable to the
more than 50,000 species of the phylum Euarthropoda, the trilobites, clearly one of
the most successful branches of life in biological history, whose ending came during
a series of pulses, relatively abruptly during the End Permian–Triassic Extinction
event, some 252 million years ago.
