many economically desperate human souls, people who are hungry, living on US$
1.25/day, children dying before their first birthday, crises in quality education,
energy, healthcare, gender equality, sanitation, opportunities for youth, and systemic racism, the rallying cry for which, “I can’t breathe” certainly speaks to the
planet; but more so, to human nature. Eventually, most people, hardened survivors
in so many ways, will be living in cities, as these dilemmas escalate even further,
and proximity between humans—actual physical proximities, as measured in yards
and inches—intensifies.
What then? Those moments we all feel, suddenly and quite without warning, like
vertigo. And we say, it’s really happening, a desperate epiphany commensurate with
the call for more wildness, and for its legal standing (Fig. 4.3).
