Giulia has a Master’s degree in Conservation Science (Imperial College
London), a Master’s in Global Rule of Law and Constitutional Democracy
(Università degli Studi di Genova), a PhD in human rights from the Law Department of the Università degli Studi di Palermo and a Bachelor of Art in Political
Sciences and International Relations from the Università degli Studi di Palermo. She
recently published her first book When Rights Embrace Responsibilities. Biocultural
Rights and the Conservation of Environment (2018).
Rayna Sutherland (she/her) is a Research Coordinator at Resource Africa, a
non-profit organization which works with communities in Southern Africa to
advocate for people’s rights to sustainably use their natural resources, respecting
their cultures, worldviews and knowledge systems. Rayna has over four years’
experience working with grassroots environmental and social justice organizations and socially just research hubs in Tanzania, South Africa and Canada, across
the thematic areas of food justice, gender-based justice, land and resource rights,
protected areas policies and Access and Benefit Sharing. Rayna holds an Honours
Bachelor of Arts in International Development and Women’s and Gender Studies
from the University of Toronto and is based in Vancouver, Canada.
