while workers in the other half of the foor remained largely virus-free
(Figure 11.2) (Park et al., 2020).
In another study, researchers at the Guangzhou Center for Disease Control
and Prevention investigated a COVID-19 outbreak traced to a restaurant in
Guangzhou, China (Lu et al., 2020). One asymptomatic person (A1) appeared
to have infected nine other people as a result of being in the shared air path
of an air conditioner (Figure 11.3). Other patrons outside of the path of the
airfow, and restaurant staff, did not get sick. “We conclude that in this outbreak, droplet transmission was prompted by air-conditioned ventilation,”
wrote the researchers.
