Appendix B
Symbols and Notation
The symbols and notation appearing in this book are listed below. Within
the main body of the text, symbols are usually defined at their first usage within a chapter, or at other times when needed for clarity. Some
symbols have multiple meanings that arise from past usage; however, the
reader should be able to distinguish which definition applies by the context
in which the symbol appears. In some cases derivations have been presented using the same notation used in the original papers; and in other
cases, original notation has been altered to better fit with the surrounding
material.
