Solution
From the graph shown in Fig. 2.5, for the given grain size particle (read
from horizontal axis), the line intersecting the curve corresponds to the
shield’s parameter (read from vertical axis).
Shields parameter = 0.05

Tcr = 0.05 x (2650 - 1025) x 9.81 x 0.02
rcr = 15.94 Nm-2
The shear stress of 15.94Nm-2 will initiate the movement of a particle
of diameter 2.0 cm.
