occurs due to the absorption of incident or diffracted waves to an extent.

1.3 The Indian Coast
1.3.1 General
The coastline length of India is about 7500 km, which includes its island
territories. The coastline behaviour is not uniform and varies from State to
State, even site to site based on local deciding parameters like it orientation,
bathymetry, existence of Coastal structures, etc. There are nine maritime
States along the east and west-coastal régions of India. A wide variation
in the géomorphologie features of the coast has been seen with a distinguished features along east- and west-coasts. Further, the northern Coastal
stretches hâve unique characteristics with dominant tidal action compared
to Southern parts of the coasts. The Coastal régions of India are densely
populated and nearly 20% of the total population of India live in these
