The next job is to bring the second team, danois Ostermann and
Tino Seifert from BalticTaucher, to their place of work on a further
transition piece. Routine work to ferry them over, the same procedure as for the first pair. After that, the Sure Swift takes up a
waiting position. The location is just a few hundred métrés from
the wind turbine installation vessel, Bold Tern, which on this day
is busy installing the A2nd turbine. Waiting at this location is truly
spectacular. Below the Bold Tern, which is raised 20 métrés above
the surface of the water on its four legs, a jet of water returns
the cooling water used for the vessel's diesel generators to the
North Sea.
In calm conditions, the installation of the three rotor blades is
an impressive spectacle. At a distance of a hundred métrés,
everything seems so smooth, even childishly simple, although
components 58 métrés in length are being lifted and positioned.
IT IS AS IF THE CRANE WAS LIFTING OVERSIZED MATCHES HORIZONTALLY INTO THE AIR. BUT IN REALITY IT IS 18 TONS THAT
ARE BEING LIFTED TO THE HUB WITH CENTIMETRE PRECISION IN ORDER TO GUIDE AND FIX THE 72 BOLTS FOR THE BLADE IN
THE HOLES INTENDED FOR THEM. ALL THREE BLADES ARE INSTALLER IN LESS THAN THREE HOURS.
