of the photic zone was defined as the depth at which 1% of the surface irradiance
was présent (Table 1). The depth of the mixed layer (Zmjx) was calculated as depth
at which the sigma-t gradient is higher than 0.1 unit m 1 [14,15].
2.3 Particulate Matter Analysis
Water samples were collected throughout the water column using Niskin bottles
(101). Sampling depth ranged between 100 and 1500 m for total POM analysis and
