Souvent un composé comporte plusieurs fois un même atome auquel
on doit se référer. Un bon exemple en est l’urée CO(NH2)2 comportant
deux atomes d’azote par molécule ; on pourra écrire au choix :
— la concentration d’urée est de 1 pmol.l-1,
— la concentration d’azote uréique est de 2pmol.l-1.
Les autres expressions du type « 1 pmol urée.!-1 » ou « 2 pmol Nurée.r1 », par exemple, sont à proscrire car chaque unité forme un tout qui
ne doit pas être dissocié, dans le cas présent pmol.l-1 (Iapso, 1979).
