Modycot cruise, April 1998
Figure 1 - Surface salinity fields provided by Modycot 98-3 survey.
Initial and boundary conditions
The simulation began onjanuary 1 st , 1994, and extended over two years.
On the surface the model was forced by wind stress and air-sea heat
transfer estimated from the French weather model Arpege outputs
(Météo-France). These data were provided on a grid with steps of 0.5° in
longitude and latitude. They were linearly interpolated at the nodes of
2D and 3D models. The daily measured discharges of Loire, Gironde
and Adour were averaged over a time period of one week and input at
the mouth of their estuaries.
The system has a rather long memory, since the influence of initial
conditions only lost its importance after a full year. This is why we performed a two-year simulation, but only examined the results for the
year 1995. For this application, only the salinities calculated between the
Adour and Gironde will be considered.
