Conclusion
Preliminary estimation indicates that during 1999 approximately 0.5
ton of mercury have flowed into the Nerviôn estuary, which is equivalent to the river input into major European estuaries (Tseng, 2000). The
nature of the anthropogenic sources of mercun 1 in the estuary is now
under investigation. Finally, further validation of these data has to be
done and the strong seasonal variation, observed in 1999, has to be confirmed during the next sampling period in 2000.
