with the simulation is the scarce influence of the closed area on monkfish and megrim. A possible explanation is that the area of Llanes is not
an appropriate habitat for these two species, which prefer deeper waters,
and that their possible biomass increase is limited. These results suggest
that the simuladons protided by hcosim and the pictures provided by
Ecospace seem to be realistic.
Conclusion
The main purpose of this paper is to provide a broad overview of the
trophic interactions and some emphasis on the fïshery effects. Another
important objective of this preliminary study is to be able to compare
the results with other existing models in next areas, such as the North
Sea (Christensen, 1995). The licopath model (and the recent expansions
Ecosim and Ecospace) can be a valuable tool for understanding ecosystem functioning and for the design of ecosystem-scale adaptive management experiments. Further research is required in order to improve
input data and to sustain or diminish the results presented in this preliminary model. In particular, the limited availabilifr of parameter estimates for the main invertebrate groups of the Cantabrian Sea on an
annual basis reflects a need for new oriented studies aimed at producing
such estimates.
