VI. THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM AND FEEDBACK
The central nervous system receives information from a large number
of lateral line sense organs with a wide distribution over the body. Most
fishes are equipped with both types of organs: On a background of
spontaneous nerve firing they signal information about environmental
water motion, its velocity and direction, and the presence of vibrating
