large number of variant forms and the dominant pathway of development was different (Fig. 49). Similar local variation is present in the
development of Meganyctiphanes norvegica and, as previously mentioned, in that of Nyctiphanes australis (Fig. 49). Not only can the
relative numbers of variant (minority) forms be different in different
places and times but the dominant forms can also be different. Consequently, sampling requires to be extensive geographically and in time
