may grow to seaward of the avicennia fringe. These trees grow at such
a level that some of them are wetted daily. They lie below the level of
high water of the lowest neaps. I n many places where this zone occurs,
but not in all, saplings may grow beyond and push the outer edge
further seaward.
Hardly ever are Sonneratia alba and S. grifithii
to be found growing
