Light entered rearing tanks through the cover slit, attraoting
liauplii to the centre and surface ; plaice larvae fed on the fringes of
this tightly-bunched food population. The system proved reasonably
effective, but current work in open circulation at Port Erin shows that
better survival can be expected if tanks remain uncovered and evenly
illuminated, causing Artemia to disperse during early larval feeding.
