however, contained 27% fewer taxa than the downland at site (2),
whilst the winter barley occupied an intermediate position. There were
also marked differences in faunal diversity (a) between the sites, the
maximum (27) and minimum (17) values being obtained at sites (2) and
(4). This represented a decline in diversity of 37% (Fig. 4).
