surrounds precipitous eroded flanks; tussock grasses are the dominant
vegetation of the coast.
Rockhopper penguins are present on all five groups, nesting typically
on rocky cliffs and boulder slopes, especially where tussock grass provides
shelter from wind and sun. Erect-crested penguins are most numerous
on Bounty and Antipodes Islands, nesting also in smaller numbers
among the Rockhoppers of Campbell Island. Yellow-eyed penguins
breed on Auckland Islands, especially in the coastal forest, and less
plentifully among tussock and low shrubs on Campbell Island. Macquarie
