it is found that practically all the newly introduced cells establish colonies. Further experiments with improved conditions have shown that the
layer of feeder cells can be discarded if certain synthetic media are
combined with serum and embryo extract (Puck, Cieciura and Fisher,
1957). Clones of both epithelial and "fibroblast" cells have been obtained in this way (Fig. 6).
