There is high correlation between dry mass and total nucleic acid (r = 0-919) and between
dry mass and D N A content (r = 0-918) with no significant difference between the two correlation coefficients (t = 0-078, whereas the value to be attained at the P = 0-05 level is
t = 1 -97 and at the P = 0-5 level is t = 0-67).
