IV. BIOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS
T h e metabolic activity of C. fetus is comparatively slight: there is no
production of acid from carbohydrates, negative reactions for Methyl red,
indole and Voges-Proskauer reaction; lysine, ornithine, and arginine are
not decarboxylated, and malonate is not utilised. The most important
morphological and biochemical properties are summarised in Table I.
