showed that 65% of the C. diphtheriae strains, all mitis types, were bacteriocinogenic. Corycins produced by mitis are homogeneous, belonging to
group A.
In Romania, Meitert (1969a, b) and Meitert and Bica-Popii (1971)
examining 592 strains of the genus Corynebacterium, found that eight
species (i.e. C . diphtheriae, C. ulcerans, C. hofmannii, C. xerosis, C. murium,
