Appendix
A
This appendix includes all the necessary instructions for running program
D A M B L D , which is the computer code for the capital investment optimization algorithm outlined in Chapter 3. For convenience the appendix has
been divided into six sections t h a t deal with (1) the structure of the program, (2) roles of different routines, (3) instructions for introducing data
cards into program D A M B L D , (4) block diagrams for the important
routines, (5) computer program notation, and (6) a F O R T R A N IV listing
of program D A M B L D . T h e detailed output for a sample problem appears
in Appendix B .
Program D A M B L D is designed to optimize the capital investment in the
expansion of an existing water resources system.
Α.1· S t r u c t u r e of t h e P r o g r a m
T h e program consists of one calling routine program D A M B L D and the
subroutines B A K T R A K , R E A D I N , E X T D A T , P R I N T E X , B O U N D ,
K N O K I N ( K X ) , S P E D A T ( K X ) , O L E R S E N , and N E T F L O . T h e role
of each routine will be discussed in the following section.
T h e subroutines R E A D I N , E X T D A T , S P E D A T ( K X ) , and P R I N T E X
are concerned with i n p u t / o u t p u t operations; the remaining routines include all the concepts of the optimization algorithm. Block diagrams are
provided for all the routines. A detailed discussion of the out-of-kilter
algorithm (which subsumes subroutines O L E R S E N and N E T F L O ) is
provided in Chapter 3, Section 3.
