Abstract :
Ecological studies of phytoplankton are of major interest because these organisms constitute the
food web basis. In coastal ecosystems phytoplankton communities are subjected to
anthropogenic inputs which could influence their ecology and growth.
The framework of this study is the determination of the dynamics of phytoplankton populations,
their structure and ecology in the Bay of Bou-Ismail.
Samples were taken in the period between February and March 2018. The physic-chemical
characteristics of the sea water were measured in situ along with nutrient salts.
A total of 41 species were identified. According to the results, the phytoplankton population is
dominated by Diatoms followed by Dinoflagellates.
Keywords: Phytoplankton, Bay of Bou-Ismail, Diatom, Dinoflagellates.
