Abstract
The interest of our study and the approach, in addition to an inventory of fish recorded on trawling in the eastern sector of the
Algerian coast, is also to detect possible changes in the structural parameters of fish populations in the effect of global change
(climate change and/or human impact).
The investigative tool used in this study is bottom trawling, which remains one of the best ways for sampling demersal fauna.
This sampling method appears satisfactory and gives a representative sample of fish populations living on and near the bottom.
Bottom trawls are used bottom trawls both sides with two girts, but they differ in the geometry and rigging, they have to collect
additional data, the sole criterion of differentiation is the swept surfaces in different fishing seasons.
Ichthyological inventories made from our fishing trips and operating results of campaigns carried out by research vessels have
identified 230 species (36 and 194 Chondrichthyes Osteichthyes). It identifies, in addition to species recorded on the trawling
grounds, taking into account all the species collected by various fishing gear or found on rocky and uneven a total of 303
species (1 Cephalaspichthyes, 52 Chondrichthyes and 250 Osteichthyes ). It would be desirable to extend similar research in
other sectors of the Algerian coastline on one side and the other funds and rocky coasts, as well as pelagic species, to better
understand the diversity of the stands ichthyological Algerian coast.
The fish fauna of the trawling in the eastern sector of the Algerian coast is characterized by a dominance of species in fauna
affinity hot Atlanto-Mediterranean region. By cons, species affinity cold are poorly represented. In the future, what impact will
changes in species diversity? Is what they will be strong enough so that fish populations are affected? Will we see a
pronounced reorganization of ecosystems with meetings between species that were not previously in contact, who will compete
for available resources between species currently interdependent.
Agglomerative hierarchical (CAH) has highlighted the spatiotemporal evolution of fish populations from trawling in the
eastern sector of the Algerian coast from 1924 to 2006. This approach has revealed assemblages fishery, where the only
structural factor is the bathymetry. The overall picture obtained is used to highlight a marked discontinuity between the
settlement of the continental shelf (Boops boops; Capros aper; Citharus Linguatula; Dentex maroccanus; Engraulis
encrasicolus; Lophius budegassa; Mullus barbatus, Pagellus acarne; Pagellus erythrinus; Sardina pilchardus; Trachurus
trachurus), some species descend deep enough (Dentex maroccanus; Mullus barbatus, Pagellus acarne) and that of the
bathyal zone (Argyropelecus hemigymnus; Chauliodus Sloan Chlorophthalmus agassizii; Coelorhynchus Coelorhynchus;
Etmopterus spinax; Gadiculus argenteus argenteus; Galeus melastomus; Helicolenus dactylopterus dactylopterus;
Hoplostethus mediterraneus; Lampanyctus crocodilus; Lepidopus caudatus; Micromesistius poutassou; Phycis blennoides;
stomias boa boa; Symphurus nigrescens). It has been demonstrated, as a procession of species eurybathic (Conger conger,
Merluccius merluccius, Pagellus bogaraveo).
We did not reveal significant differences between assemblages interzone fish populations of Bejaia, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba and
El Kala, it follows therefore that these assemblages of the eastern Algerian coast exhibit common or similar dynamics in the
eastern sector.
The bathymetric profile of different fish populations revealed is a state of reference for further investigations within the
framework of a follow-up trawling the eastern sector of the Algerian coast. These results may provide a baseline to better
understand the impact of fishing pressure on the spatio-temporal organization stands in relation to demersal trawling
Mediterranean subject to higher fishing pressure.
On the bionomics, trawling the ichthyofauna of the eastern sector of the Algerian coast has three major fish populations:
- The population of coastal detrital Vidalia volubilis or Ophiura texturata, which are characteristic species Pagellus erythrinus
and Pagellus acarne and common species Boops boops, Mullus barbatus, Mullus surmuletus and Zeus faber.
- The settlement of Detrital widescreen Leptometra Phalangium or Neolampas rostellata, where the species characteristics
Macroramphosus scolopax and Trigla lyra, and the common species Mullus barbatus.
- The settlement of the bathyal to vases Funiculina quadrangularis and Aporrhais serresianus or Isidella elongata and Thenea
muricata, which are characteristic species Chlorophthalmus agassizii, Coelorhynchus Coelorhynchus, Etmopterus spinax,
Galeus melastomus, Helicolenus d. dactylopterus, Lepidopus caudatus, Micromesistius poutassou and Phycis blennoides, and
the common species Capros aper.
