Abstract :
The study of pollution in the Bay of Bou-Ismail by oil was carried out by a spatio-temporal
monitoring of the contamination of seawater and marine sediment by polyaromatic
hydrocarbons (PAHs). To this end, two oceanographic cruises, conducted during two different
periods (December and May) on board of the two research vessels the M.S. Benyahia and
Baba Arrouj, allowed the acquisition of new data for the HPA in two matrices, water and
sediment.
The samples was stored away from light and temperature, then processed at laboratory to
make them analyzable by Spectrofluorimetry Ultra-Violet (SFUV) which is simple and fast.
The results of our study for sea surface water and sediment revealed the absence of significant
pollution. The levels of PAHs found in two periods of sampling are low to moderate : 0.37 to
1.29 µg/l for seawater and from 0.30 to 3.17 µg/g for marine sediment. Compared to results
from other previous work on other sites, these values are fairly low, especially compared to
the Bay of Algiers.
Key words: Polyaromatic Hydrocarbons, the contamination, sea water, sediment.
